Through the “Lens of Love,” the third incarnation of the Silhouette Project, tells the stories of young people’s experiences fighting, surviving and living with cancer, drawing attention to the underrepresented AYA (adolescent and young adult) cancer community. Through silhouetted images colored by text taken from spoken interviews, the pieces tell the stories that make these journeys unique and illuminate the aspects that unite the AYA community.
The inspiration and depth of this focus on the AYA community presented itself when Dona’s then 17 year-old daughter, Julietta, was diagnosed with brain cancer in late 2017. Her story and struggle was unique and personal, yet part of a tapestry of courage, pain and hope and despair shared by far too many young people today.
Do you know an adolescent/young adult that has a story to tell of their struggles? Please get in touch here. Having each other in such a challenging time can be very important and comforting.
